Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton clashed in a heated second presidential second presidential debate in St Louis, Missouri, on Sunday night, coming in the wake of the scandal over Trump’s remarks about women in leaked recordings.

The debate got off to a frosty start as the two candidates chose to forego the customary handshake. The leaked recordings soon came up, with Clinton accusing Trump of making similarly derogatory remarks about other minorities and suggesting the comments “represent exactly who he is”.

Trump dismissed the comments about women as “locker room talk and attacked former president Bill Clinton over allegations of sexual assault in a debate that quickly turned highly personal.

The two candidates clashed over a series of other issues, including the war in Syria, immigration and the controversy over Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state, vowing that if he won the White House he would put Clinton in jail.
